Glenlola Road Safety Public Speaking Success!

On Thursday 4 December six of our pupils represented Glenlola Collegiate in the Bangor Road Safety Public Speaking competition which we hosted in the Library.  The girls who competed against eight competitors from Bangor Grammar were:-

Year 9 Jenna Fletcher and Emma Acheson.

Year 11 Anna McDowell and Grace Walker.

Year 13 Rebecca Campbell

   Year 14   Martha Ward

After listening to fourteen very interesting speeches with topics ranging from, “Should 20 mph Zones be introduced into more areas?”  to “Could Social Media Sites Contribute to the Reduction of Road Traffic Crashes?”, adjudicator Mrs Joan Whiteside and members of the Newtownards and Bangor Road Safety Committee were left with the challenging job of selecting the winners in each category.

Class A            Emma Acheson was awarded 1st  place.

Class B            Jamie Park was awarded 1st  place and Anna McDowell 2nd place.

Class C            Martha Ward was awarded 1st   place.

Finally the Glenlola pupils were awarded the PSNI Cup for the winning team.

Everyone present gained vital knowledge, information and guidance from all the competitors.  Thank you to all the pupils who participated and to the Newtownards and Bangor Road Safety Committee for the generous prizes which were awarded. Also thank you to Mrs Lauder who prepared the Junior and Middle School pupils for the Competition.
