Irish Schools Athletics 2014

On a very sunny Saturday, 11 excited athletics arrived at the track in Tullamore full of hope and anticipation, and they certainly were not disappointed. The girls had worked hard all year and were rewarded with unprecedented success. Emma Stockton finished a creditable 8th in the Senior girls Hammer. Rebekah Rutherford finished 8th in the Intermediate Long Jump and won a bronze medal in the Intermediate High Jump with a personal best jump of 1.60m. Ellen Robinson finished 7th in the 80m Hurdles and 8th in the 300m. Sarah Connolly won a silver medal in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 15.08 seconds.

The final events of a long and exciting day were the relays. Glenlola Collegiate have a long history of success in this event and today was no different. The Junior relay were scheduled first and won a fantastic bronze medal. The team was Emma Murdock, Emma Carlisle, Olivia Vaughan and Katie Robinson. The intermediate team were determined to follow that example and did not disappoint when they won the gold medal in a time of 49.7seconds, just outside the Irish record. The team was Kirsty O’Neill, Saskia Greer, Elleana Hull and Ellen Robinson.
