Headmaster’s Address

On behalf of the Board of Governors, staff and pupils of Glenlola Collegiate, I am pleased to welcome you to our website.

Glenlola Collegiate is an all girls’ grammar school located in central Bangor, County Down and the new purpose built accommodation, which was opened by HRH The Duke of York in October 2003, ensures that our pupils have access to the very best facilities both in the classroom and when participating in the wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer. Our School Vision statement, ‘Excellence through commitment, contribution and caring’, encapsulates the core values of Glenlola Collegiate, emphasising our strong academic and pastoral ethos.

Bangor has been an established centre for girls’ education for over 100 years and the School now has an enrolment of 1150 girls, plus teaching and non teaching staff. As a grammar school, academic achievement has been our high priority and we encourage and support our pupils in their efforts to fully realise their potential. The School is justly proud of its girls and their achievements in the years since it was established by the merging of Bangor Collegiate School and Glenlola School Bangor in 1957. In addition, there are strong sporting and musical traditions, with community service, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Combined Cadet Force high on the list of girls’ interests which also includes involvement in over 30 extra-curricular activities. The School retains a strong House system with the girls joining one of the six School Houses; Clanmorris, Dufferin, Hamilton, Harte, Ward and Weir. The Houses promote corporate and collective competition within school while developing the girls’ leadership and organisation skills.

It is our hope that this website will provide you with helpful and appropriate information about our educational standards and expectations and leave you with a sense of the strong learning community that exists at Glenlola Collegiate. Visitors are welcome to the School by appointment and, should you have any queries, do contact us directly by telephone, fax or e-mail, see Contact Details.
