Subject Overview

Physics gives us an understanding of how things work. It teaches about the laws that explain the world around us and uses these laws to improve our standard of living.   Physics influences everything, from cancer treatment, computers and mobile phones to sportswear, renewable energy and weather forecasting.

Key Stage 3

Introduces the world around us through practical experiments and develops an understanding of topics such as Earth and Space, Magnetism and Pressure.

Key Stage 4

At Glenlola the CCEA Specification is followed.  Through a range of teaching techniques and practical experiments it develops an understanding of many topics including Electricity, Mechanics, Earth and Space. It also develops important skills such as numeracy, logical thinking and problem solving.

Key Stage 5

At Glenlola the CCEA Specification is followed.  It develops a deeper understanding of Mechanics, Electricity, Fundamental Particles and Medical Physics.  Studying AS and A2 Physics develops practical techniques and the skills of data analysis, planning and problem solving.
