Junior Library Club

Junior Library Club meets every Monday afternoon in the Library after school.  Pupils enjoy a wide variety of activities based around the love of books and literature.

A main focus of Junior Library Club is shadowing various literary awards including the Northern Ireland Book Awards.  This year pupils have been able to participate in a number of special events in connection with this.  In January a small group of pupils were invited to Methodist College to take part in an inter-Schools Drama Workshop led by Drama Facilitator, Mr Stephen Beggs.  Pupils joined with those from other schools and in small groups participated in a range of drama-focused activities based on the short-listed titles.

The highlight of the year, however, was a trip to the impressive new Bangor Grammar School which, this year, hosted the NI Book Awards’ Grand Finale.  There they were entertained by local author, Debbie McCune who read extracts from her latest novel – “Death and Co”.  In preparation for this event the girls had worked extremely hard, using multi media, to produce a book trailer for the novel “Wonder” by R J Palacio – the book which was announced as overall winner on the day.
